Meta sells $15 billion in bonds to finance AI build-out
Meta Platforms has priced a five-part bond sale totaling $15 billion to help pay for data centres, chips and other artificial intelligence infrastructure, adding to a growing pile of tech debt tied to the AI race.

Based on a regulatory filing, the offering includes $3.25 billion of notes due in 2031 paying a 5.85% coupon, and a further $3.25 billion maturing in 2033 at 6.25%. The remaining three tranches complete the $15 billion package, though their individual terms were not detailed.
The debt sale follows closely on Meta’s move to broaden a separate equity-raising plan that could reach as much as $97.5 billion, pointing to the scale of capital the company expects to need for its AI push.
Large technology firms have traditionally relied on their own cash reserves to fund expansion, but the size of AI-related spending on chips, cloud capacity and data centres is pushing even well-capitalised companies toward external financing. Meta’s bond and equity activity illustrates how the AI investment cycle is changing corporate funding patterns across the sector.
Why it matters for markets: Large corporate bond issuance from a company like Meta can affect US Treasury yields and credit spreads as investors weigh fresh supply, while heavier debt and equity financing tied to AI spending is a signal to watch for US tech stocks, including the Nasdaq 100.
